The Federal University of Technology Owerri has sacked a lecturer found guilty of sexual harassment and a non-academic staff for admission racketeering.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof Francis Eze, who disclosed this in Owerri yesterday, also said that 47 students have been arrested over last Friday’s violent protest, which led to the destruction of university properties worth several millions of naira.
He denied allegations that the protest was caused by tuition fee hike, insisting that the institution, like all other federal universities, is tuition-free.
He said before the increase of the ICT payment to N 19,000 they had a meeting with the SUG, adding that even when the students said that they would only pay N15,000, the management agreed.
