Tacking oily skin in hot weather

Oily skin is caused by a lot of things, from hormones, genes to puberty too, but it obviously goes to another level when the weather is scorchingly hot. Oily skin can be frustrating especially when wearing makeup and tends to cause breakouts too.

Although you can’t change the type of skin you have, there are few things you can do to tackle it and reduce the greasiness.

Wash your skin right: it is important that you use oil free and gentle cleansers to wash your face to keep the oiliness at bay and keep your skin mattified. Preferably, choose a cleanser with salicylic acid to help break down the oil deep within your pores.

Follow your wash routine with a mask: Use a mask with clay, charcoal or salicylic acid to draw out the oil on your face without completely stripping it of moisture.

Go for oil free makeup: Heavy foundations tend to clog up pores and weigh down the skin producing more oil. As alternative for those who cannot survive without makeup, go for light, oil free and silicon based makeup that will suck up the oil and protect your skin too.

Eat right: Fizzy drinks and spicy foods dilate blood vessels that make you sweat more which, needless to say, is not what we want. Opt for organic foods rich in vitamin A like carrots, spinach, cucumbers and the like that will slow down the oil production process.

Blot your skin: Whenever your skin becomes oily, don’t just powder over it. You’re basically just creating another layer on top of the oil and makeup. Your skin needs to breathe. To avoid a cakey mess, use blotting sheets to soak up the excess oil instead to keep your face looking fresh.

Invest in a primer: Many people underestimate the importance of a primer yet it makes one of the biggest differences. It keeps oiliness at bay and your makeup in place instead of melting and becoming cakey. Who wants that? So make sure you include a quality primer in your budget.
