Ghana President Nana Akufo-Addo has initiated steps to recover stolen public funds from serving and retired government officials, in line with his anti-corruption mantra, Daily Trust report.
Already, the government has tasked a 17 member committee to recover funds stolen from public coffers by serving and retired government officials.
The team which is headed by the Auditor-General and consists of auditors, accountants and lawyers among others, has been mandated to establish the veracity or otherwise of corruption allegations levelled against some public officials, as well as retrieve embezzled funds should they be found liable.
The Auditor-General, Mr Daniel Yaw Domelevo in an interview also indicated that the team had undertaken training programmes by the judiciary in order to build capacity to discharge the responsibility.
He said, “We have begun looking into our books and we are working to ensure that we retrieve every pesewa owed the state by officials who misappropriated funds.”
