The Saudi German Hospital, Dubai (SGHD) is working towards partnering with medical organisations in Nigeria on training and health care services

Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Dr Reem Osman made this known in a telephone interview with Daily Trust.

She said such training and skill enhancement programmes include conducting medical education programs, and training of doctors, nurses and management staff to add value for healthcare system in Nigeria.

She said the hospital was also seeking partnership between its Batterjee Medical College in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Nigerian medical colleges for training of students, such as inviting medical students for training and doctors for observer ship programs.

Asked how the economic downturn in Nigeria influences the hospital’s healthcare services for Nigerians, she said they would be offering more discounts and special treatment packages for cancer patients.

On when the hospital would kick-off on Nigerian soil, Dr Osman said it is currently in the phase of market study to identify which city to start the hospital as Nigeria is a large country. It is also trying to ascertain which specialities are in demand in healthcare in order to identify the right partner either in the public or private sector, she said.

She said Saudi German Hospital, Dubai is a pioneer in technological advancements, like automation and electronic patient records which ensures patient safety and satisfaction adding that it is the first hospital in the private sector in Dubai to introduce pharma robot to reduce medication errors and waiting time.

Dr Osman said the future of Nigeria lies in hands of the young educated population saying “While travelling across UK and USA I have met several Nigerian doctors and medical staffs in top positions in hospitals and medical universities. So there is need to develop the infrastructure of the medical facilities in order to bring them back to home country.”
