The High Commissioner of Ghana to Nigeria, Ambassador William Awinador-Kanyirige said Nigerians resident in the then Gold Coast fought alongside the citizens for the country’s independence six decades ago.

The envoy stated this during Ghana’s 60th independence anniversary in Abuja on Monday.

“When we are talking of the heroes of Ghana’s independence, there were Nigerians who were part of that struggle.

“So when we are struggling for independence, Nigerians who were in the country then joined in the struggle,” the envoy said, adding that such was also the case for the struggle of Nigerian independence.

According to him, both countries shared a common aspiration, freedom and justice.

“Nigeria-Ghana relations are more of people-to-people. The two governments, politicians and military are very close but the people are even closer,” he added.
